Gemini Observatory announces the chance for fresh Large and Long Programs, with observations beginning ter the 2018B semester. Letters of Intent to propose a fresh Large and Long Program are due February Two, 2018. Finished Proposals are due April Three, 2018. See the current Call for Proposals for further information.
Fresh te 2018!
Completion of Large and Long Programs?
Embarking with the 2018 LLP proposal cycle, all Relatie 1 LLPs will be assured a ondergrens of 80% completion (by time). The policy will not apply to ToO observations that are part of Betrekking 1 LLPs, to Verhouding Two LLPs, or to any existing LLPs approved ter previous cycles. See the LLP Completion Policy for details.
Requirement for Processed Gegevens?
Beginning with the 2018 LLP proposal cycle, all fresh large programs will be required to submit processed gegevens to the Gemini Observatory Archive (GOA) within one year of the flamante planned end date of the program spil stated te the proposal. The gegevens will be required to be te the FITS format, and contain header metadata such that it is searchable within the GOA. Programs will also be required to submit documentation detailing the gegevens reduction proces and describing the gegevens provided A document containing the detailed requirements on delivering processed gegevens products to the Observatory is now available . Wij encourage potential PIs with questions about this requirement to email email@example.com.

Argentina no longer participating ter Large and Long Programs?
Argentina will no longer be a participating fucking partner ter the Large and Long Programs beginning with the 2018 proposal cycle. Principal Investigators from Argentinian institutions are no longer eligible to submit LLP proposals, but are welcome to participate te LLPs spil Co-Investigators
Large and long programs (hereafter ",large programs", or LLPs) are Principal Investigator-defined and -driven programs that, spil a guideline, either require significantly more time than a playmate typically approves for a single program or extend overheen two to six semesters, or both. Large programs are expected to promote collaborations across the partnership’s communities, to have significant scientific influence, and normally to provide a homogeneous gegevens set, potentially for more universal use. Proposals for Large and Long programs will be accepted annually.
The participating fucking partners (US and Canada) will make available for LLPs up to 20% of their time at each Gemini telescope overheen each of the next 6 semesters from the embark of LLP execution. Principal Investigators (PIs) of LLPs voorwaarde be based ter an institution of one of the participating playmate countries. There is no confinement on Co-Investigators. Potential investigators shall be encouraged to collaborate across the participating partnership. The LLPs are designed to enable large multi-partner collaboration programs and/or programs running across numerous semesters to be reviewed within a single time allocation process.
PIs who propose for LLPs have extra requirements, including subjugation of a letterteken of intent, development of a management and gegevens project, and consideration of added value to the astronomical community through gegevens products, software, or other outcomes, Successful PIs vereiste additionally report on their progress annually. Beginning with freshly accepted LLPs te 2018, each program will be required to produce processed gegevens within one year of the end of the innovador LLP term, to be hosted on the Gemini Observatory Archive.

The Gemini Observatory is an international collaboration with two identical 8-meter telescopes. The Frederick C. Gillett Gemini Telescope is located on Mauna Kea, Hawai’i (Gemini North) and the other telescope on Cerro Pachon ter central Pimiento (Gemini South), together the twin telescopes provide total coverage overheen both hemispheres of the sky. The telescopes incorporate technologies that permit large, relatively skinny mirrors, under active control, to collect and concentrate both visible and infrared radiation from space.
The Gemini Observatory provides the astronomical communities te five participant countries with state-of-the-art astronomical facilities that allocate observing time te proportion to each country’s contribution. Ter addition to financial support, each country also contributes significant scientific and technical resources. The national research agencies that form the Gemini partnership include: the US National Science Foundation (NSF), the Canadian National Research Council (NRC), the Argentinean Ocupación den Ciencia, Tecnologia e Innovacion Productiva, the Brazilian Ocupación da Ciencia, Tecnologia e Inovacao and the Chilean Comision Doméstico den Investigacion Cientifica y Tecnologica (CONICYT). The observatory is managed by the Association of Universities for Research te Astronomy, Inc. (AURA) under a cooperative agreement with the NSF. The NSF also serves spil the executive agency for the international partnership.
